School Team Finishes 2nd in County Basketball Finals! 20th March 2025

Our school team made us all proud by finishing as runners-up in the county finals, demonstrating incredible skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.

The journey began with a strong group stage performance, where the team secured their place in the knockout rounds with two wins and a draw. One of the standout moments came in the opening game when Isla kept her nerve to sink a crucial free throw, ensuring a dramatic last-minute draw.

In the semi-final, the team stepped up their game against Childers Thornton Primary School, delivering a fantastic performance to claim a well-deserved victory. Marcus was outstanding, scoring key baskets that secured the win and a place in the final.

The final against St Oswald’s was always going to be a tough challenge, and despite a determined effort, the team fell short with a final score of 4-8. However, they gave it everything, showcasing great resilience and teamwork until the final whistle.

Finishing 2nd in the county is a huge achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder of the entire team. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and supporters who helped make this an unforgettable tournament!

Match Report: St Elphin’s Year 6 Triumph in a 3-2 Thriller Against Bewsey - 8/5/25

St Elphin’s Year 6 team extended their unbeaten run this season with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over a determined Bewsy side in an action-packed encounter.

The game got off to a dramatic start when a handball in the box by a Bewsy defender gifted St Elphin’s an early opportunity. Jacob stepped up confidently and slotted the penalty home, giving his side a 1-0 lead.

St Elphin’s doubled their advantage with a well-worked set piece. Harvey launched a precise throw into the box, and Clayton rose highest to power a header into the net, sending the supporters wild.

ShoRtly after, George delivered a superb corner that caused chaos in the box. Archie reacted quickest, poking the ball over the line to make it 3-0. At this stage, it looked like St Elphin’s might run away with it.

Bewsy, however, refused to lie down. Just before the break, they launched a swift counter attack and found the back of the net. Moments earlier, Jayson in goal had made an impressive 1-on-1 save to keep them out.

In the second half, Hebin took over in goal and was immediately called into action. He produced a sensational double save and later denied Bewsy again with a fantastic stop from a powerful free kick.

Despite the defensive heroics, Bewsy managed to claw another goal back, setting up a tense finish. But the St Elphin’s defence stood strong, with Tavonga and Clayton putting their bodies on the line with several crucial blocks.

When the final whistle blew, it was St Elphin’s who emerged victorious with a 3-2 win—maintaining their unbeaten record this season in style.

Final Score: St Elphin’s 3 – 2 Bewsy
